Psychotherapist serving the Triangle since 1982

Ready to Shine

If you have now decided that psychotherapy can serve you, consider several issues before choosing a therapist with whom to work.

Therapy is a rich experience, not only problem-solving but relationship building. The crucial ingredient of good therapy is the relationship you and the therapist build together. Therefore, choose someone with whom you feel a comfortable connection, someone who makes you feel understood, accepted, and appreciated. Choose a therapist who creates and maintains an atmosphere within which you can feel safe to explore even your most deep sources of pain or conflict. Choose a therapist with whom it feels just right to establish such a life-changing and life-enhancing relationship.

Before choosing, consider the following questions:

  • Will this therapist be covered by my health insurance?  Contact your employer's Human Resources Department or your insurance carrier.  The phone number to contact is often listed on the back of your insurance card.
  • Will this therapist handle filing for reimbursement with my insurance carrier?
  • Will this therapist provide session times within my schedule requirements?
  • Does this therapist use an approach with which I am comfortable?
  • Will this therapist guard my confidentiality?
  • Can this therapist provide liaison with other professionals to coordinate my other therapeutic needs?
  • How will I know when I have completed my need for psychotherapy?
